The Philippine Islands, August 2016
I have in-laws from the Philippines, - namely my brother's wife and her family. We had the opportunity to go there and meet them all and it was a real adventure. We all met up at the airport in Manilla, and from there flew to Iloilo. (Pronounced eee-low eee-low.) For 20 days we travelled over dirt roads on trikes, - motorcycles modified to carry an exta three people, - or on jeepneys, which is a kind of bus. Those folks have a different culture, - for example they have different psychological body-space requirements. Those jeepneys would be crammed so tight with people we could smell each others' breath. I got to spend some time doing some "up in your face" street photography, and I loved every minute of it! I hope you all like these!

Packed tight in a "jeepney" on our way to my niece's baptism.
Need to transport 4 people? No problem, you can all cram onto a trike. Got a party of 15 you need to move? Stuff them all into a jeepney. A jeepney is a kind of glorified flat bed truck, with bench seats and a canvass cover for the passengers in case it rains. The folks closest to the driver just hand over their pesos to him, or his partner riding shotgun. As the jeepney travels down the road, stops and picks up more people, every one just scrunches in tighter together, and the new passengers in the back just pass their money through the others up to the front.
